No muffins for you!

Moose in our yard are becoming a common occurrence. Here is a young guy that spent a few hours eating and napping in our yard on Saturday.

Valentines

A couple of my sweethearts and a sneak peak at my Valentine's present that is nearly finished.

hiking a slippery slope

A few weeks ago we decided to head to the mountains for a winter hike after some recent snowfall. We were anxious to seize our window of daylight and pulled over at the first sign of a trail head. Kids bundled and sleds in tow, we made our way to the trail and the sign read:
Round trip - 2 miles
Very Strenuous
Hiking Time - 3 to 5 hrs
Steep and slick! We didn't make it too far, but we had some good laughs at our efforts to scramble up mostly on all fours. No complaints of being cold or tears, a much bigger feat than reaching any destination.

Ice Ice Baby

The kids enjoyed all the festivities the Peninsula Winter Games had to offer last weekend. George played in his first hockey scrimmage and the kids all got medals for taking part in the games; afterward we tried out the super cool ice slide.

We went and watched start of the Tustumena 200 sled dog race a few weeks ago. It is the only qualifying race for the Iditarod here on the peninsula. Truly an Alaskan experience, we saw six moose on the fifteen mile drive there.

Winter has been surprisingly mild so far. The days are getting longer and the sun is creeping higher over the horizon. Jeff took this picture while out cross country skiing.
